First Fully Dismountable Stadium in the World

974 Stadium Qatar

First announced in 2017 , the first FIFA world cup Stadium designed to be fully dismountable, was brought to life by the Spanish studio Fenwick Iribarren Architects and built in Doha, Qatar. The Stadium 974 was completed ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022, and reuses shipping containers to achieve a cheap, cost-efficient construction, offering a modern yet unique and memorable atmosphere to the fans and players alike. Seven games will be played at Stadium 974 during Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The stadium takes his name from the number of shipping containers used in it’s construction, yet the number is also Qatar’s international dialing code +974. Most of the shipping containers used in the construction were also used to transport materials to the stadium’s site, celebrating also the maritime and industrial heritage of the city.

974 Stadium

Being a sustainable concept, Stadium 974 offers a natural cool breeze to ease the stadium’s cooling system, because of the location it has been built – the seaside. GSAS – Global Sustainability Assessment System classifies the construction model of this stadium as a 4-star overall. The designs uses prefab and modular elements, reducing the waste during production of its components and the waste on site during construction.

Stadium 974 is located near the Doha Port, Hamas International Airport and Doha Airport, it would be the first stadium that the soccer fans would see when they arrive in Qatar, and will be looked as a landmark and a gateway to the country. Being inspired by a Lego set, and using recycled steel and shipping containers instead, it can be unmounted and maybe recycled after the tournament is over.
